Goat skin is by far the most popular thumb leather for violin bow making. This fine material is durable and it is also very firm and easy to work.

This is not typical goat leather. This is imported from England where we have sourced the highest quality goat skin for artistic applications.This is top grade leather as seen on the interiors of the finest European automobiles, fine book binding, the finest gloves and in artistic work of many kinds.

Our leather has been tanned, cured and mill pressed to a specific thickness of .8 to .9 mm plus or minus .1 mm. This is specifically the ideal thickness for violin family thumb leather. The pebbled Moroccan texture has a luxurious look and feel and the texture aids in seam blending.

These usually arrive as a one piece roll that is about 5" by 30". This weighs about 46 grams. They may be in two pieces and the size mentioned does vary but you are assured of 144 Square inches or more of this high grade material.
